ZOFRAN
Before I go ahead and continue writing this blog post, I would just like to state that this is my experience and my personal story.
Morning sickness was most probably the worst 14 weeks of my life. It's depressing just thinking about it. Interesting enough, well for me anyways, it was worse than childbirth. For those who don't know what morning sickness is or how it feels, consider yourself lucky. Don't worry, I'm not going to ramble on about how bad my morning sickness was but more so talk about using a drug called Zofran during my first trimester of pregnancy.
I've been meaning to write this post for a long time now. The reason being, when I started using this drug, unwillingly, I had doubts in my head about it. When I first went to my doctor about morning sickness, she asked me if I can carry on with daily activities. I couldn't go to work, as every smell would set me off to throw up. I was not eating anything and was losing weight. I had it bad! So she prescribed me Zofran and the moment I took one it was as if i was miraculously healed. Yes, i still felt a bit queasy, but I didn't feel the need to throw up. It was a miracle. So when I got home, I decided to do a Google search on Zofran. And to my dismay, it had a bad rep for pregnant woman. I was reading stories on how it causes harm to the fetus. For example, defects to the heart. So I went back to my doctor and explained my concerns and she explained that she has prescribed this drug to all her patients who have had the same problem and all babies were born normal. I trusted her decision and continued using the drug.
After weeks of using it, packet after packet, pill after pill, I noticed I wasn't needing it anymore as my morning sickness was fading away. From memory, I probably only used the Zofran for about 10 weeks. In saying that, I always had this annoying concern in the back of my mind from all the bad things I read about it online, and watched all these commercials and videos to say it's really bad for pregnant woman. But, like everything, I like to see the facts, the research and the studies. And seeing as there was no hard evidence to show me that Zofran was going to affect my baby, I used it! On a positive note, my baby was born healthy and normal. One year on, she is still healthy and normal, even though I used Zofran.
(Note: I used the dissolvable tablets 4MG)
